Our Programs
Serving children from primarily low-income families, Page Ahead collaborates with elementary schools, tutoring programs, Head Start and other preschool programs, tribal libraries, migrant centers, homeless shelters, and teen parenting programs across Washington State to improve the reading and language skills of at-risk children.
Book Distribution Program
Provides new books (up to five books to each child per year) to read, share, and cherish.
A child's pride in learning to read is a key element in achieving literacy. By providing children with new books to keep, Page Ahead enhances the relationship between parent and child and the relationship between child and book.
To excite children about reading, books are distributed through motivational events held at partner sites. This year, over 600 motivational reading events will be held as part of Page Ahead's book distribution program.
Sample Events
- Dr. Seuss' birthday party; children choose a book; adult volunteers read with them (Van Asselt Elementary, Seattle)
- Parents help children choose a book and read it together while sharing a treat (Lummi Birth to Three Program, Bellingham)
- Parents and children make Eskimo and polar bear puppets, dramatizing a story they have read (Clarkston Center WWCC - Families That Work, Clarkston)

Organizations serving children from age birth to twelve in the state of Washington can apply for our services.
Family Involvement Program
Educates and encourages parents to read with their children. While access to books is important, it is the family that makes the greatest difference in a child's academic success.

- Parent-Child Workshops, including story time for preschool and kindergarten programs
- Kindergarten Kits designed to help parents prepare their children to begin their schooling
- Technical Assistance to help partner site staff develop captivating children's literacy programs

Community Involvement Program
Create lasting community support for reading programs.
This year through our Community Partnership Program, more than 50 corporations and community organizations will hold book drives and adopt program sites. Last year more than 400 volunteers read with almost 4,000 children at various partner sites. In addition, over 60,000 books were collected and distributed to children.
