2007 - 2008 VISTA Positions
posted July 2007
Page Ahead Children's Literacy Program is currently seeking full-time VISTA members to work in our downtown Seattle and Spokane offices. Both offices are looking to hire a Family Involvement Coordinator and a Community Partnerships Coordinator.
Family Involvement Program Coordinator
The Family Involvement Program Coordinator will work with our partner sites and schools to plan and deliver ‘Story Times’ curriculum to the classroom and workshops to parents and caregivers centered on the importance of reading. This position requires recruiting volunteers to lead story times and good public speaking skills when delivering workshops to adults.
Community Partnerships Program Coordinator
The Community Partnerships Program Coordinator will work with businesses and community groups to coordinate book drives and fundraisers. This position also requires volunteer recruitment and public speaking to groups like Chambers of Commerce, Alumni Associations, Kiwanis clubs, etc.
Both positions require good writing, computer and phone skills. Experience working in an office setting is helpful. These positions, while involved with helping children, do not involve working with them on a regular basis.
Hours and Length of Service
A minimum of 40 hours per week, with irregular hours reserved for AmeriCorps-related activities. Some evening and weekend hours will be required. The total length of service is one year, beginning August 28, 2007 and ending August 29, 2008.
Living Allowance
Both VISTA positions are paid AmeriCorps volunteer opportunities. As an AmeriCorps volunteer, you will receive a modest living stipend, education award of $4,725, health coverage, and training. Some AmeriCorps volunteers also qualify for student loan forbearance and childcare assistance.
Positions will close August 3, 2007. For more information on these positions and to apply, visit the AmeriCorps website (Listing ID: WA011148-66).
