Family Involvement Program Services
The family is instrumental in developing within each child a love for books and the ability to read. Page Ahead works with partner sites to involve parents and caregivers in the reading activities of their children. Based on research, best practices, and a survey of its partner sites, Page Ahead is helping parents become active participants in their child's literacy development.
- In the Families Read Workshops parents learn to choose what, when, and how to read to their children in order to maximize learning and develop their child's literacy skills. This interactive workshop includes a model read-aloud and a hands-on activity. Parents receive literary resources and a free children's book. A Page Ahead trainer can come to your school or organization to present this free workshop in English or Spanish.
- The Story Time Reader program provides preschool and kindergarten classes with ongoing story times that include books, songs, finger puppets, and crafts. A trained volunteer can come to your classroom to present this positive reading experience for learners of all types. You can choose to receive story times once a month, twice a month, or every week!
- Ready for School is a packet provided to parents of children who are about to begin school. The packet includes activities that children will encounter in kindergarten and makes those formal learning experiences familiar and comfortable.
